Hello all

When I debug an application, VS2005 starts downloading symbols
correctly, and then freeze :

'MYAPP.exe': Loaded 'D:\MYAPP\bin\MYAPP.exe', Symbols loaded.

(source information stripped).
'MYAPP.exe': Loaded 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\secur32.dll', Symbols loaded
(source information stripped).

The statusbar displays: Loading symbols for C:\WINDOW
\system32\rasapi32.dll
In my symbol cache directory (C:\WINDOWS\Symbols) the rasapi32.pdb
directory doesn't show up

Before I emptied the cache directory, it did work up to the next DLL
rasman.dll, and freeze too...

Any idea ?

Thanks

I had the same problem a few months ago, I ended up downloading "Debugging
Tools for Windows" from microsoft and used symstore.exe to download the
symbols.

You might try to replace symsrv.dll used by VS with the one from Debugging Tools package
(it should be copied into <VSInstallDir>\Common7\IDE). Sometimes it helps
(though usually it's a kind of network problem that causes it, not VS or symsrv.dll itself).

thanks

I did use your 'symget' tool to retrieve the few PDB that VisualStudio
wouldn't download by itself, and now it's ok
(is symget.exe quite the same as symstore.exe that Greg talked about?)

If I experience any more problem, i will follow your recommendation
and update to the latest symsrv.dll from Debugging Tools package

I think Greg actually meant Symchk, not Symstore (they both are part of
Debugging Tools for Windows package). Anyway, Symget is not the same as
Symchk, but similar. Symchk is much more advanced tool, Symget is simpler to use
and, at the time of its creation, could do one thing that Symchk could not -
download symbols into a flat directory structure (now Symchk can do it too).
